Delhi to Nepal — Route at a Glance
The Delhi to Nepal motorcycle ride is one of the most rewarding cross-border journeys in South Asia — blending India's NH highways with Nepal's dramatic mountain roads, Terai plains, and Himalayan high country.
Two Main Border Crossings
for Delhi → Nepal Riders
Both crossings are open to motorcyclists. Choose based on your final destination in Nepal and preferred NH route from Delhi.
The most commonly used crossing by motorcycle riders from Delhi. Bhairahawa on the Nepal side connects directly to the Siddhartha Highway, giving you a smooth run to Pokhara (4 hrs) or the Prithvi Highway to Kathmandu (5–6 hrs). The crossing is well-managed with a dedicated immigration counter for two-wheelers. TIP processing is usually completed within 30–60 minutes during off-peak hours.
A slightly longer approach from Delhi, but NH27 via Varanasi offers excellent road quality. Raxaul-Birganj is a busier commercial border with heavier truck traffic — allow extra time for formalities. On the Nepal side, Birganj connects via Mahendra Highway/BP Highway to Kathmandu (5–6 hrs) through Hetauda. A less scenic but reliable alternative, especially if your Delhi departure is via the eastern corridor.
The Two Most Important Documents for Your Nepal Ride
Both documents are essential. Stoneheadbikes handles one and guides you through the other — here's how it works.
NOC (No Objection Certificate) — Provided by Stoneheadbikes
Because you are riding a rental motorcycle (registered to Stoneheadbikes), Nepal immigration requires written authorisation from the registered owner permitting the vehicle to cross the border. We issue this NOC letter on company letterhead with vehicle details, your name, travel period, and authorisation for Nepal entry. Without this NOC, no rental motorcycle can cross the Nepal border legally. We include this in your booking at no extra charge.
TIP (Temporary Import Permit) — Obtained at Nepal Border
The TIP is issued by Nepal Customs at the border crossing point. It registers your motorcycle as a temporarily imported vehicle and specifies the maximum period it can remain in Nepal. You need: RC book (we provide), insurance (we provide), NOC (we provide), your driving licence, and your identity document (Aadhaar for Indian nationals; passport + IDP for foreigners). TIP processing takes approximately 30–90 minutes. We provide you with a complete checklist and briefing before your departure so there are no surprises at the border.
Nepal Entry Permit (for Foreign Nationals)
Foreign nationals need a Nepal visa. Most nationalities can get a Nepal visa on arrival at the border checkpoint (fees vary — typically USD 25/30/100 for 15/30/90 days). Indian nationals do NOT need a visa or passport for Nepal. Our team provides nationality-specific documentation guidance at the time of booking confirmation so you arrive at the border fully prepared.
- Aadhaar Card or Voter ID — Sufficient for Nepal immigration. No passport required for Indian nationals.
- Valid Indian Driving Licence — Must include motorcycle endorsement (LMV/MCWG). Learner's permit not accepted.
- Motorcycle RC Book — Original provided by Stoneheadbikes at pickup. Do not lose this — needed for TIP at border.
- Valid Insurance Certificate — Provided by Stoneheadbikes. Mandatory third-party included; optional comprehensive upgrade available.
- NOC from Stoneheadbikes — Company letterhead authorisation for Nepal border crossing. Included in your rental package.
- Stoneheadbikes Rental Agreement — Carry the signed rental agreement as additional supporting documentation.
- Valid Passport — With at least 6 months validity beyond your travel dates.
- Valid Indian Visa — Required to legally be in India and to have been issued the motorcycle rental.
- International Driving Permit (IDP) — With motorcycle endorsement. Issued by your home country's licencing authority. Required for Nepal TIP.
- Nepal Visa — Available on arrival at Sunauli/Raxaul border for most nationalities. USD 25 (15 days), USD 40 (30 days), USD 100 (90 days). Bring USD cash or card.
- Motorcycle RC Book — Original provided by Stoneheadbikes. Essential for Nepal TIP processing.
- Valid Insurance Certificate — Provided by Stoneheadbikes. Comprehensive insurance strongly recommended for foreign riders.
- NOC from Stoneheadbikes — Company authorisation for Nepal border crossing. Included in your rental.
- 2 Passport-size Photographs — Some Nepal border checkpoints ask for these for TIP registration. Carry extras.

When to Ride
Delhi to Nepal
Nepal's riding conditions vary significantly by season. Here's what to expect quarter by quarter so you can plan your rental dates wisely.
Peak season. Rhododendron forests in full bloom. Clear mountain views before the haze. Perfect temperatures in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Book early.
Not recommended. Heavy rain causes waterlogging on Terai routes (UP, Bihar) and landslides on Nepal mountain roads. Riding is possible but challenging and risky.
The best season for most riders. Post-monsoon crystal clarity, Himalayan views at their sharpest, dry roads, pleasant temperatures throughout Nepal.
Cold but rideable for the main Kathmandu-Pokhara-Terai circuit. High-altitude Nepal routes (Mustang, Annapurna) are closed. Fewer crowds, excellent clarity.
Why Choose Us for
Your Nepal Rental
Cross-border motorcycle rentals are significantly more complex than standard rentals. Here's what makes Stoneheadbikes the trusted choice for the Delhi–Nepal route.
NOC Included — No Extra Charge
Every Delhi-to-Nepal rental includes our company NOC letter authorising you to cross into Nepal. Many rental companies don't provide this at all — and without it, Nepal border immigration will not let you through on a rented motorcycle. We provide it as standard, at no extra cost, in every Nepal rental.
Full TIP Permit Briefing Before Departure
We provide a complete, written document checklist and verbal briefing tailored to your nationality before you leave Delhi. You know exactly what documents to present at which counter, in what order. There are no surprises at the Sunauli or Raxaul border. Riders from 50+ countries have crossed into Nepal using our rental documentation without a single rejection.
40-Point Pre-Delivery Inspection
Every motorcycle going to Nepal undergoes a thorough 40-point safety inspection before handover. Tyres, brakes, chain, oil, lights, electrics — everything checked and documented. For a 1,200 km round trip through Nepal's terrain, you need a machine that will not let you down in the middle of the Trishuli gorge or the Siddhartha highway.
Experienced with Foreign Nationals
Indian nationals, Europeans, Australians, Americans — we have processed Nepal rental documentation for riders from 50+ nationalities. IDP requirements, SAARC visa rules, passport stamping procedures — our team knows the specifics for each nationality and guides you through without confusion.
24/7 WhatsApp Support Across Nepal
Our support line stays open throughout your Nepal ride. Route questions, mechanical guidance, weather updates, help with Nepal SIM or connectivity issues — one WhatsApp message away. We've had riders contact us from the Upper Mustang plateau. We answer.
Transparent, Itemised Quote
Your Nepal rental quote shows every cost separately — daily rental rate × days, optional insurance, optional RSA, accessories. No hidden charges. No surprise additions after you've paid the deposit. The quote we send you is the final amount you pay, unless you choose to add something extra.
Frequently Asked Questions —
Delhi to Nepal Motorcycle Rental
Everything you need to know before renting a motorcycle in Delhi for your Nepal ride.
Yes. Stoneheadbikes provides a No Objection Certificate (NOC) authorising you to ride our rental motorcycle across the India–Nepal border. This NOC, combined with the motorcycle's RC book, insurance certificate, and your identity documents, is what you present at the Nepal border immigration to register the Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for the motorcycle. Without the NOC from the registered owner (Stoneheadbikes), you cannot legally ride a rental motorcycle into Nepal. We include the NOC as standard in every Delhi-to-Nepal rental booking.
No. Indian nationals do not need a passport to enter Nepal. A valid Aadhaar card or Voter ID is sufficient for Nepal immigration. You also need a valid Indian driving licence with motorcycle endorsement. You do not need an International Driving Permit (IDP) or a Nepal visa. Nepal has a completely open border policy for Indian nationals under the India-Nepal Treaty of Friendship.
The Temporary Import Permit (TIP) is a document issued by Nepal Customs at the border crossing that allows a foreign-registered vehicle (in this case, our Delhi-registered motorcycle) to enter and be used within Nepal for a specified period. To obtain the TIP, you present: motorcycle RC book, insurance certificate, your NOC from Stoneheadbikes, your driving licence, and your identity document. Processing typically takes 30 to 90 minutes depending on the queue at the border. Sunauli tends to be faster for two-wheelers. We send you a complete border procedure guide before your departure so you know exactly which counters to visit and in what order.
For most riders from Delhi, Sunauli (Bhairahawa) is the better choice. It is approximately 150 km closer to Delhi via NH44 + NH27, and the Siddhartha Highway on the Nepal side connects directly to both Pokhara and Kathmandu through beautiful mountain terrain. Raxaul (Birganj) is a valid alternative if your Delhi departure route is via Varanasi or Patna, but it adds approximately 150 km and the crossing can be busier with commercial truck traffic. Unless you have a specific reason to use Raxaul, we recommend Sunauli.
Yes, but Upper Mustang requires a Restricted Area Permit (currently NPR 500/day for SAARC nationals; USD 50/day for others). This permit is issued by the Nepal Department of Immigration in Kathmandu — not at the border. You need your passport and two passport photos. Indian nationals do also need their passport for the Mustang restricted area (the general Nepal border policy doesn't apply here). For the Upper Mustang circuit, we strongly recommend the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 for its power and reliability at altitudes above 3,500m. We advise on the permit process at the time of booking for anyone planning the Mustang route.
A comfortable Delhi to Nepal round trip covering Kathmandu and Pokhara typically takes 10 to 14 days. Riders spending more time — Chitwan wildlife, Mustang circuit, Annapurna circuit, or Bandipur — commonly book 18 to 25 days. The minimum practical rental for Delhi-to-Kathmandu-and-back is around 7 to 8 days (2 days each way, 3–4 days in Nepal). We quote for the exact number of days you specify — longer rentals get automatic 10% (15-day) or 15% (30-day) discounts. You can also extend your rental while in Nepal by calling or messaging us — subject to fleet availability.
This is a more complex arrangement because our motorcycles are registered in India and cannot be permanently imported into Nepal. However, if you are flying out of Kathmandu and don't want to ride back to Delhi, we can arrange a one-way return via transporter at an additional fee — we ship the motorcycle back to Delhi from our Nepal transporter contact. This option must be discussed and quoted at the time of booking as it requires advance logistics coordination. Contact us via the quote form or WhatsApp and mention one-way Nepal return in your message.
Royal Enfield has an established service and dealer network in Nepal — particularly in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and along the main highways. In the event of a breakdown, contact us on WhatsApp immediately. We coordinate with the nearest Royal Enfield service point or a trusted mechanic in the area. For major mechanical failures, we work with local transporters to get the motorcycle to a service centre while keeping you mobile. Optional RSA (Roadside Assistance) coverage, available at the time of booking, provides additional emergency support on both India and Nepal routes — we strongly recommend it for Nepal rides.
